Puppy Power: Everything You Need To Know About Caring For A Baby Canine
Puppies are one of the most adorable things on earth. It’s a fact! However, they can be something of a handful when it comes to taking care of them, especially when they are still very young. Luckily, to get you through this challenging stage I have come up with the guide below, so read on to find out just about everything you need to know about caring for a puppy.
Attention and Exercise
First of all, puppies are full of energy, that means you will need to be able to keep up with them! This is an important thing to remember because if you don’t love going out walking 2-3 times a day, or having a little furry ball chase you around the house at all hour of the night, it might be a better idea to get a full grown dog!
Puppies also need additional attention because they will be newly separated from their mum and this a cause them anxiety. Add to this the fact that you will need to put effort into training and you can see what a significant time investment they will be. Just be sure you know that you are willing to make it before you get one.
Food
Puppies need to eat particular food too. The reason for this is twofold, firstly their mouths and digestive systems are not as well established as those of older dogs and therefore the food itself needs to be smaller and more easily digestible.
Secondly, you need to find a special dog food for pups because their nutritional requirements are different as well. In fact, puppies grow at an incredibly fast rate, and this means they need a diet that is very nutritionally dense.
Of course, some owners mistake this for needing a standard high protein food, but this can be bad for a puppy as it can affect their growth. That is why is always vital that you choose a specialist pup food for when they are young.
The Vets
Next, the vet’s office should be a regular haunt if you have a young puppy. Not because of injury, but due to all the check-ups and shots they will need while they are young.
In fact, your puppy will need specific injections before you can talk him on walks outside or allow him to mix with other dogs. Both for his safety and thirst so be sure to attend all of those appointments at the right time.
Grooming
Last of all, when it comes to puppies, grooming is pretty vital, and in particular, it’s crucial that you spend some time getting them used to taking a bath, getting their nails clipped, and brushing their teeth while they are young.
Then, you will have a much easier time of things as they get older as you should be able to do the majority of grooming tasks yourself at home. Something that can be a lot more pleasant for your dog, as long as you do it right, and cheaper for you in the long run as well.
