Late Resolutions for 2018
You may think that resolutions are only for the new year, but what’s wrong with making them a bit later than normal? After all, there are no right and wrong times to try and improve your life. By now, a lot of people’s resolutions will have disappeared without a trace, so now is the ideal time to start some of your own.
Of course, before you start a resolution, you should aim to make sure that it is something that you can actually stick to. The best way of doing this is by writing out a plan and dividing your goals leading up to your overall aim. If you are stuck for ideas of resolutions you can make, let’s talk through some common options right here.
Eat Better
Right at the top of the list of most common resolutions is eating better. One of the most effective ways of doing this is by buying your own food at the supermarket rather than eating out or getting takeaways so often. Before you head out to the supermarket, write out a list of exactly what you need, so you don’t to get anything extra than you need. After all, you will be a lot less likely to give in to temptation if the unhealthy snacks are not in the fridge in the first place!
Get More Exercise
Another obvious one, but there are plenty of people who want to challenge themselves to exercise more. And one of the main benefits of starting this resolution late is that the gym won’t be so packed with people who started in January but have already given up! If you are not a fan of going to the gym, there are hundreds of other types of exercise which you could try out instead. Try to find someone who wants to work out with you as well. This way, you will always have a buddy who is ready to pick you up and give you the motivation you need.
Spend Less Money
The first thing that you need to do when you are aiming to spend less money is to make a household budget. This way, you can closely monitor where your cash is actually going every month. Split up the list into essentials and nonessentials. Obviously, the latter list is the one to tackle first, and there are all sorts of extra expenses which you could cut back on. But the essentials list can also be trimmed. For example, you should compare all your household bills, so you can find out if there are any that you can get cheaper elsewhere.
Learn New Skills
Obviously, this is a very broad category, and there are all sorts of different skills which you could take up. One of the most common is learning some DIY and home improvement techniques. The trick to learning something like this is not biting off more than you can chew, so you want to start small before building up over time. Once you are comfortable with the basics and have assembled a toolkit, you may then start to take on more complicated tasks involving the need for more specialised trade partners like rubber manufacturers, heating engineers, and electricians. Remember, safety is always most important, so don’t take on any tasks which you think may put you in any sort of danger.
Look After Yourself Better
One of the most common ways that people want to look after themselves better is by getting more sleep every night. This makes such a big difference to physical and mental wellbeing. If you are the kind of person who often struggles to sleep, the first thing that you need to do is to cut out disruptive factors like alcohol, caffeine, and big meals close to bedtime. Try to avoid anything that involved a screen as these devices have also been shown to be problematic. Instead, try some less stimulating activities such as listening to music or reading a book. Keep a consistent bedtime every night, and make sure that your sleeping environment is as comfortable as it possibly can be.
Make New Friends
The older you get, the harder it tends to be to make new friends. However, if you are willing to make a bit of extra effort, you shouldn’t have too many problems. One of the best ways of doing this is by joining a new club or organisation. This way, you have a shared interest from the start, and this may lead to more social events in the future. The internet has also helped to open up new social opportunities, and websites such as Meetup could help you to find the new circle of friends that you are looking for.
Cut Out Bad Habits
Breaking bad habits such as smoking or drinking too much alcohol can be challenging, but these are goals that are always worth striving for. One of the best ways that people find of tackling their issues is by working out what the triggers are in the first place. Often, bad habits are caused by stress or boredom, so the trick is to find other healthier ways that you can deal with these particular problems.
Read More Books
Since our modern world is so dominated by screens these days, one of the top things that people resolve to do is to read more books. The best way that you can give yourself the time and concentration that you need to take part in the pastime is by finding a quiet room and removing all other distractions from it such as your phone and laptop. Put on some quiet music in the background and get lost in some stories.
Are you inspired to take up one of these late resolutions yourself? If so, set yourself a plan to make sure that you follow through with any one of the life-improving goals. After all, you don’t want to find yourself making exactly the same resolution in a year’s time!
