Excuses We Make For Not Eating Healthily

Excuse #1: I just don’t have the time!  (flickr)

Do we need to tell you that a healthy diet is good for you? No, of course we don’t. Eating your fruit and veggies is a must if you want to focus on your health, and cutting out those diabolical foods that can cause you health problems down the line, such as highly processed foods and anything high in sugar and trans-fat need to be ruled out.

But what about you? Do you eat a balanced and nutritious diet, or are you more likely to reach for a bar of chocolate instead of a piece of fruit, or a takeaway meal on speed dial instead of preparing something worthwhile in the kitchen?

If you know you aren’t eating well enough, these are some of the excuses you may be making.

Excuse #1: I don’t have the time

You don’t have time to care for your health? That’s a poor excuse, as despite your busy schedule, you still need to find ways to eat better than you might be doing at the moment. Why not consider getting up earlier for starters? This way, you might be able to have a healthier breakfast instead of grabbing something nutritionally worthless when you’re in a hurry. You might also have the time to throw something healthy into the slow cooker if you know you won’t have a lot of time or motivation to cook after work. And if you don’t have time to shop in the week, you might also consider doing a shop online, filling your virtual basket with healthy items, and having them delivered to your home when it suits your lifestyle.

Excuse #2: I don’t know how to cook

Are you forever buying processed meals because you don’t know how to cook? Are you relying on takeout foods to feed yourself and your family? Then stop it! Sure, we aren’t all master chefs, but it doesn’t take a lot of time to learn a few basic recipes. Have a look online or buy a recipe book for dummies, and start to build up your cooking skills. And if you do insist on buying takeaway meals, be that because you think you lack skills, or because you just can’t be bothered cooking (the honest excuse), you can still get fitness meals delivered instead of the junk-alternatives!

Excuse #3: Life is too short!

Life is too short, so eat what you want right? Why should you waste your life eating foods you don’t like, even if they are good for you, when you can eat more pleasurable food items instead? Well, life is short, comparatively speaking, but if you insist on throwing caution to the wind when choosing what to eat, your life will be even shorter! Sure, not all healthy food is as tempting as a bar of chocolate or a big bag of potato chips, but there are healthier alternatives to your worst food choices, so check out the linked article and increase your life chances instead of ruining them!

Finally

Cut out the excuses, because you need to care for both yourself and your family. Eating healthily should be something you concentrate on daily, so focus your mindset, do what needs to be done, and consider the suggestions we made to better care for your life, and the life of those around you. You have no real excuse not to!
