Combining Family Activities With Exercise

It can be difficult to find the time to exercise, especially when you throw kids into the mix. One way to ensure that the whole family gets the exercise they need is to turn it into a family activity! There are some excellent activities that you can try to enjoy getting active together, and perhaps discover some fun new hobbies for the family too.

Train for a race

Finding the motivation to go for a run or bike ride can be tough on your own, but it can be a lot more fun when the whole family is involved. Pick a charity or a cause that means something to you and motivate each other to succeed. Remember that it’s just a bit of fun and you don’t need to take it seriously to enjoy the exercise.

Go trampolining

Having a trampoline in the garden is one thing, but going to a trampoline park is a whole other story! Trampoline parks are a great way to enjoy fun family activities and get fit at the same time! Trampolining can be an effective cardiovascular workout, which is low impact and can also help you improve your balance – perfect for clumsy kids and out of practice adults!

Yoga classes are a great idea for a family activity. Family yoga classes are becoming a popular type of exercise for families, particularly those with young children. Putting kids and parents on equal footing, doing yoga together can help you all to learn new moves, increase your flexibility as well as learn how to focus and be calm. Even if you don’t head to a class, you could all have a go at doing yoga at home with some YouTube videos and do it at a time that suits you.

Park games

A visit to your local park is a lovely way to spend the day, and it doesn’t cost a penny. Take some games with you that you can all play together and you won’t even realise that you’re burning calories! Frisbee, football or a bat and ball are all popular games to play in the park for a really fun day out for everyone.

Climbing

Climbing centres offer some excellent family sessions that make them an ideal fitness activity for weekends. Learning to climb will improve strength, build strong muscles and help you to concentrate, while it can be fun for you all to learn together. If you suffer from anxiety, or stress, then climbing can be a good outlet to help you get out of your head and focus. Climbing is a challenging but fun activity that the family can all enjoy.

A lot of being a parent involves multi-tasking and trying to do multiple things at once, and by finding fun activities that are active and get you moving – you’ll cover both exercise and the fun factor. Find fun family activities that you can all enjoy together and spend time doing something you love that helps keep you in shape too.
